"There's some kind of crazy connection between Michigan and Florida, enough so that the proposed bullet-train / flume ride linking the two states starts to make a hell of a lot of sense, especially when you consider the twenty-some-odd trips to Gainesville NORTH LINCOLN has made from Grand Rapids over the last five years. Between recording two albums and a demo here playing five Fests, and touring in general, maybe they should invest in a time-share or foster a band-exchange program?

The eleven songs on "Midwestern Blood" are the culmination of a two-year recording and mixing process. Rob McGregor once again captured the noise at Goldentone Studio, with Derron Nuhfer mixing the beast at Crescendo Sound The trade off captured the best of both worlds. The band took their straight forward, gruff mix of anthemic punk and raspy rock and extended the formula to include instrumental stretches and more space to breathe. Maybe it was too many hours spent listening to Drive Like Jehu? Maybe it was something in the water... or the snow? A few years ago, somebody coined the term "Midwestern beer- belly despair rock" to describe a handful of bands emanating from the greater Illinois/Michigan era, and the moniker couldn't be more aptly fitting for North Lincoln. Hailing from the reeling metropolis of Grand Rapids, deeply rooted in a community that rode the post-industrial wave of collapse and still struggles to keep its head above water, North Lincoln embodies a newer wave of working-class punk rock that ditches the anthemic trappings of Boston and New York and instead builds on the melancholy hymns of luminaries like JAWBREAKER and LEATHERFACE. They've added a healthy dash of HOT WATER MUSIC's hoarsely-shouted defiance to craft their own niche - desperate without implying resignation, helpless without feeling hopeless, downhearted but never defeated. It's furious mid-tempo rock heavily steeped in distorted minor chords, all tied together by lyrics that scrutinize the turbulent personal and social relationships found in their community and, more likely than not, mirrored in our own

Pay money To my Pain (abbreviated as P.T.P.) are a Japanese Nu metal/Metalcore band. All of the band's lyrics are in English.

After the disbandment of vocalist K's previous band Gundog, in 2005, he recruited four members and formed Pay money To my Pain. They began to produce songs by themselves before getting noticed quickly by the record label, VAP. From there, they released their first major single "Drop of ink" on December 6, 2006.

Several months later, they ventured to California where they recorded their first album, Another day comes, which was released on the September 12, 2007. This album included "Home", the Buzzer Beater ending song, and "Another day comes," the ending song for Ultraseven X.

In May 2008, the band announced on their official MySpace that a new EP was in the works. In June, the EP was finished as Writing in the diary and was released on July 30, 2008.

It was inevitable that after releasing such a solid EP that It's Like Love would eventually get signed. Tragic Hero Records became the lucky home for the powerpop quintet back in August of '08 and now five months later, they're releasing their debut album, You're Too Sweet for Rock & Roll.

The aforementioned EP, I'm Selling Your Things, was a synth-driven trip into poppy melodies, catchy hooks and infectious vocals; it reminded me much of early Motion City Soundtrack. You're Too Sweet possesses some of the same qualities present in the EP but still manages to let the listener realize that this isn't the same It's Like Love from over a year and a half ago.

The band shows off their progression with tracks like "Untitled," a mellow acoustic song, and "Without You," the album's slowest song powered by piano throughout. However, songs such as "Devin, Don't Give Up" and "It's Not Me, It's You" (the album's opener) display their Motion City Soundtrack-esque musicianship which their earlier fans have grown accustomed to.

"You Put the Whore in Sorority" takes the band's catchiness to a whole new level as the song's chorus is one of the strongest in the band's catalog and arguably in the genre. It's Like Love also makes the un-surprising move of re-recording tracks from their EP to add to the full-length. The re-recorded tracks, "Keep Your Eyes On Me," "Alcohol Brings Out the Bedroom Eyes," and "So I Lied" may take a bit to warm up to for listeners who were used to the originals as I feel the band took away the zing that made them previously pop.

All in all, it's January; it's cold, and there's not too many things I'd rather do than to sit back with the heat on and listen to some music that reminds me of the Summer months. If you're like me - keep warm and give It's Like Love's You're Too Sweet for Rock & Roll a shot.

Hailing from Los Angeles California, the members of DRIVE A come together to forge a killer mix of pounding drums, lethal guitars, cascading bass lines and fierce vocals that converge to create a sound that pays respect to the past, stands up to the present and will kick down the door to the future. A switchblade to the soft, white underbelly of today's watered-down state of music, DRIVE A are pure, raw energy - on stage and in the studio - which is, after all, what Rock 'N' Roll has always been about.
DRIVE A got its start when lead vocalist/guitarist Bruno Mascolo met rhythm guitarist Jason Nott outside of the legendary Troubadour in Los Angeles in the spring of 2007. After discovering they had similar tastes in music, the two began formatting their ideas for a band, developing their own style and a bond was formed. Once they honed their approach, the two of them hooked up with Terry Stirling on drums, a couple of different bass players and began writing songs that had a remarkably developed blend of killer riffs, punk rock hooks, and a raw, Rock ‘N’ Roll gutter-snarl. Jumping in a van, the band took their high-energy live show on the road, performing well over 100 shows in just over a year including various stops on the 2008 Warped Tour, their own tour of the U.S., as well as sharing the stage with the likes of Rise Against, Papa Roach, Stone Temple Pilots, Anti-Flag, Pennywise and Billy Talent among others.
“It’s been amazing to go out and play with some of the bands that have influenced us in one way or another,” says Bruno Mascolo adding, ”I grew up listening to bands like Billy Talent, Anti-Flag, and Rise Against and now we are on the same bill with them, hanging out and seeing everything from the other side.”
Now, with the addition of their new bassist Chris Bowman, Drive A is set to release their debut album, Loss Of Desire. Years removed from the blank generation, generations X and Y, and even generation next, Loss Of Desire picks up the flag for a new generation, their generation, which is being pushed to the brink. Themes of disillusionment, frustration and, at times, anger are perfectly captured on tracks such as “Everyone’s Alone,” “Can’t Sleep It Off,” “Smiling With Hate,” and “It’s Getting Worse.”
“I think what sets us apart from a lot of bands out there right now is the fact that we are experiencing the exact same things as our fans and that’s what our songs are about, says guitarist Jason Nott. Bruno agrees, “The songs on this album are about being frustrated with a lot of things, most of the lyrics I write are personal, but I think anyone listening can relate to them in their own way. I leave it up to them to interpret what they are hearing.”
Produced by Drive A alongside Dennis Hill and Matt Sorum (Guns ‘N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver), Loss Of Desire serves as a sonic testament to what is new, what is now, and what is next, but it is their live show where Drive A will make its stand and they will have plenty of opportunities as the band is getting ready to get back in the van and hit the touring trail once again and they are not looking back.
“Touring is the life’s blood of this band,” says Mascolo. “Recording and everything else is cool, but we are a live band and that is the best way to experience Drive A.”
Already slated to appear on both Bamboozle Right & Left, dates on the Alternative Press Tour as well as slew of other live dates at home in the U.S. and overseas as well, the next year will be a busy one for this band of friends from Southern California. Bif Naked (born Beth Torbert on June 15, 1971) is a Juno Award-winning Canadian rock singer-songwriter, poet, cartoonist, and actress.

Bif Naked was born in New Delhi, India to teenage parents attending private school. She was subsequently adopted by American missionaries.She spent part of her childhood in Lexington, Kentucky, where her father was a professor at the University of Kentucky. After living for a time in Dauphin, Manitoba, her family eventually settled in Winnipeg.She graduated from John Taylor Collegiate and studied theatre at the University of Winnipeg.

A noted poet, she has also released a spoken word album. She is heavily tattooed, getting her first, an Egyptian Eye of Horus, when she was 16. Her tattoos include a symbol of the Tao, Japanese writing, Buddhist poetry and images (such as the Bodhisattva), and Hindu imagery, she has stated on MTV that her favorite tattoo, on her left arm, reads "Survivor." Naked is also a comic cartoonist.

Bif Naked has always been frank about her bisexuality, and the lyrics of her autobiographical songs (such as her 1995 hit "Everything") detail her attractions to and relationships with men and women. She is also a strict raw food vegan for health (as opposed to ethical or religious) reasons. She identifies as straight edge.

She was diagnosed with a heart aneurysm, but corrective surgery was ruled out. Her song "Everyday," from her album Superbeautifulmonster, is in part a response to that experience. Bif married her drummer, became pregnant, and later had an abortion. She wrote the song "Chotee" afterwards, with lyrics such as "So long my baby...". However, her song "Moment of Weakness" was about a man she vacationed with in Mexico. Bif married Vancouver Sun sports writer Ian Walker in a traditional church ceremony in Vancouver on September 29, 2007. In January 2008, she announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and is scheduled for a lumpectomy, to be followed by chemotherapy. Bif Naked blogs on MySpace about politics, her personal life, and dealing with cancer.

Having bandied about European airwaves over the past four years, Italian outfit Hot Gossip blast onto British shores with their second studio album, ‘You Look Faster When You Are Young’. There’s a good reason that you might not have heard of them until now though. Their sound, and needless to say this album, is pretty unoriginal.

“Not quite indie-rock, not quite post-punk or nu-rave, not quite anything that else that might fall under the alternative catch-all”; an appraisal only a publicist could dream up. Hmmm. It’s rubbish, they fall under many a catch-all. Perhaps the band have been kept at British bay because what they are essentially is math-rockers, and boy there was plenty of that knocking around last year. Potent basslines against urgent high hat clashes and mosquito-like guitar stabs is dead done, man. Faux rude boy vocals – a scraping take off of Bobbie Gillespie – do not a seminal record maketh. Or at least, not in HG’s case.

Alright, so the album’s polished, well arranged and very listenable, but its slush pile, a mere name within a roll call of similar (and more successful) artists. In its defence, ‘YLFWYAY’ tips its little fedora hat, albeit unintentionally, to stalwarts of punk, The Buzzcocks - never a bad thing.
It’s a shame: they’re neither hot, nor are they likely to be the target of much gossip. Ah well, they tried and they’ll succeed in some way. Like a stale egg served up on cold toast in a café: edible but not remarkable.

Moving forward has never sounded so sweet. After heartbreak, sweat and even some tears, Dropout Year are finally in peak condition. Consisting of lead vocalist Steve Reter, guitarists Brandon Reter and Adam Goodman, bassist Dan Ciarrocchi and drummer Jordan Young, Dropout Year has found their most stable and productive lineup to date. So with firm ground under their feet, Dropout Year can finally focus on their goal: bringing catchy, bright pop-rock to as many people as possible.

A goal like this doesn’t happen overnight. Dropout Year aren’t an instant success story, but that’s not to say that the band haven’t had plenty of early triumphs. With three EP’s under their belt and a new 8-song EP out early this year, the band knows how to craft the melodies fans crave with the honesty of a dear friend. From following the 2008 Van’s Warped Tour and selling over 3500 CDs in three weeks by sheer force of will to securing studio time with producer Rob Freeman (Hit The Lights, Armor For Sleep, Cobra Starship), Dropout Year have created their own opportunities.

Clearly, this is a band that is learning. Most of Dropout Year’s members have known each other since high school and in some cases beyond. Having strong personal relationships has already improved the band, as Steve Reter says, “The chemistry on and off the stage is great.” Knowing trust was no longer an issue, the band sat down to write their next record, aptly titled The Way We Play. As any fan of the band knows, the guys have a knack for tackling relationship topics without coming across trite or overdone. The Way We Play’s 8-songs takes this diversity to an even greater scale. Reter describes the new songs as pop-rock, but he also believes the lyrics are going to be more noteworthy than ever, saying, “It’s been a ball writing songs that deal with some of the darker and limiting aspects of relationships.”

The Way We Play is really about the transitions we make in life to achieve our goals. Reter and Ciarrocchi’s lyrics ring with such a truth that you can’t help but be optimistic. The moves the band has taken to get here, to be very literally on the cusp of stardom, shines through every new chorus and every new triumphant climax. As Reter says in his typically upbeat fashion, “With every move we make in our lives, we affect everything around us. Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad. But we’re always in transition and ready for the next move.” Don’t be surprised if the next move he’s talking about ends up being one that turns Dropout Year into a household name.

The Way We Play EP was produced and mixed by Rob Freeman. Its release is set for April 7, 2009.
